La petite cuisine à Paris: Croque Madame

After my art teacher told me about a bbc programme about a girl (Rachel Khoo) from Croydon who lives in Paris and cooks up simple French dishes, set in a tiny kitchen which doubles up as a restaurant, I knew I had to watch "The Little Paris Kitchen"
After looking at her website and a few websites she's on I found out she studied at Central St Martins and worked in the world of Fashion PR (so its all relevant on my fashion/baking based blog!)
After watching her first episode, stupidly showing my boyfriend her take on the Croque Madame he wouldnt let it go, I just had to make them! (I'm also about to buy her book from Amazon )

This was mine and Pauls attempt, we had to use brown bread, they tasted amazing, we had beans with them too but they didnt look so good in the photos! I defintely recommend making them, theyre actually really easy, and they look good if you're entertaining!

Fringed Bags and Tulips

Cardi, tulip print shirt, sunglasses: Primark
Skirt: H&M Kids
Shoes: River Island
Bag: Charity Shop (Next)

1/ Another lovely day spent basking in the sunshine, drinking cider, and I actually went for a run! Playing sport or running around is the best way to get an even natural tan as opposed to sunbathing. I also find I get bored so easily when I sunbathe, as I know I wont tan, instead I get blotchy patches of burnt bits! (Damn my fair complexion) :(

2/ I've wanted a fringed bag for so long, however it seems whenever I spot one I like in River Island or Zara, I pick it up and faff around for a while trying to decide when it will go out of fashion or if they are a little too cowboy-esk. Of course when I saw this i faffed, I picked it up, put it back several times until the shop keeper came over after seeing me having a mini-mare and offered it to me for £5, it was too good to resist, she had done it, reeled me in with lovely chairty shop prices. I brought it, and since then I have not regretted it.
What do you guys think on the fringed, suede bag? Going up or going down in your fashionista books?

Picnics and Floral Shirts

  Shirt: Charity Shop
Shorts: Vintage Levis from a local Vintage Shop 'The Real Mccoy'
Shoes, Sunglasses, Jacket: Primark
Rings: Pull and Bear
Bag: Henry Holland ( Debenhams )

1/ Yesterday Paul and I went for a lovely picnic down by the river. Paul took the day off from skating (shock horror!) anyone else have boyfriends who spend their life on a skateboard? We ate breadsticks and phildelphia, strawberries and flapjack! so yummy!
Unless your some kind of recluse and havent noticed the weather, its really been gorgeous, getting out my legs for the first time and leaving the house felt very odd for march! I loved riding around on my bike in the sun! I'm still feeling very proud of my bike and keep hoping people will come and ask where its from and I can tell them its vintage and one of a kind! hehe

2/ I dont think I will ever be able to keep away from high waisted denim shorts and shirt combo.. such an easy trend to pull off and so easy to put together if you're in a rush! The shirt was another purchase from my chairty shop haul..only £1.99 from Oxfam, and the label says ' House of Fraser Collection' so I'm guessing it might have been a bit pricey! I was shocked by the price, especially for Oxfam which I usually find slighty overpriced for a charity shop, especially now they have their 'vintage' section. None the less it was cheap as chips, and it's where I brought the skirt in the previous post which was 'Lefties,' anyone know if thats a good brand, it had a very American Apparel feel to it, especially the label?

Bikes and Charity Shops

 Top and skirt: Charity shop
Belt: Zara
Shoes: Primark

1/ I went on a little charity shop haul, brought lots of yummy things that smelt of grannies! All now washed. I wore this top to BFW too, clearly on trend with all the pastle shades on the catwalk! The top was only £4.99 as was the skirt! such bargains! People always say its so hard shopping in charity shops, I must say you have to really dedicate time to trawling through rails of shapeless shirts and flared jeans in size 16, fighting for space with grandmas that you feel like you should be polite to!
I always feel great telling people where I got my clothes from, I love having one of a kind clothes! not generic topshop/UO "vintage"

2/ This is the bike Paul (my boyfriend) did up for me. Here is 'Rosa's' Story-
I brought this bike back in 2011 for £10 from the recycling centre. It was blue, rusting and pretty  much unridable due to flat tyres and everything.. I cycled it a few times but the tyres were so flat it was such a struggle!
So for my 19th birthday Paul had spoke to my mum and came to the bike and do it up for me in secret.Afterwards he told me he'd taken it all a part, it had spent its time coming in and out of a box!.Him and his dad scrubbed, resprayed it in the "Rosa" colour and polished all the metal and screwed it al back together! and brought a basket for it.
When I saw it I thought he had brought me a new bike until i recognised it. He kept the secret from me so well I had no idea! (apart from wondering why he spent so much time at his dads all of a sudden!) it was the perfect gift! and My good friend Edie had brought me a bike bell for my birthday (she knows how much I love bikes!) so all in all a pretty good birthday! :D
That middle photo of me trying to put my unwilling cat into the basket..she did not like it!

Brisol Fashion Week: What I wore

Top: Vintage
Skirt,Shoes & Necklace: Primark

This is what I wore to the bloggers event at Bristol Fashion week. It was my first blogging event and it was so much fun! It was a little intimdating at first but I met Vicky from Lady Bug Says and we drove up together so we wern't totally alone! Then met up with Katie from Sleep wake hope and her friend.
Everyone was really nice and friendly and we got our photos taken and got to chill for a while before having sparking wine and french fancies and going into the fashion show! It was nothing how I expected, I imagined models walking down a runway, all serious and solom but it was the complete opposite, so lively and energetic. I really loved the floral prints and dresses from Oasis and was really impressed my M&S's tribal prints!
After the show we got a goodie bag and a voucher for some free Estee Lauder foundation, me and Katie were the lightest colour, as we both guessed! Just as we were leaving Gina did a video of us saying about our blogs, sooo not up for my stupid video voice being all over the internet!

I am looking forward to going to more events like this in the future! It's really nice to get involved with the blogging community I think sometimes you can feel like youre always stuck behind your laptop blogging and tweeting, so it was nice to actively do something for my blog!
Did you guys all enjoy Bristol fashion week too?

Cupcakes and Macarons

1/2/3  Red Velvet, Almond, Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry Cheesecake Cupcakes made especially for my birthday, by me. These went down a treat when me and my friends went to the pub for my birthday. They were all gone within about 15 minutes of me opening the cake tin! I made about 32, with only a 6 whole cupcake tray! So it took me far longer than it should have done! But I had fun!

4/ My lovely friend Edie made me these macarons, they were delicious and she was so on trend with my floral/ bicycle/ cupcake birthday! They also had edible glitter on them! INCREDIBLE!
Also, my boyfriend gave me the best present ever on the bicycle theme, I will post about it sometime this weekend as it deserves a very special post all to its self!
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am going to Bristol Fashion Week tomorrow for the live blogging event which I am very excited about if a little nervous as it will be my first ever blog event for me and my blog :) I will be tweeting from twitter, too keep updated look up #BFW!
Is anyone else going to the event tomorrow?

Scarlet and Bows

Shirt: No Label
Jeans&Shoes: Primark

1/ This is what I wore today,  I wanted to make the shirt a bit more feminine so I took inspiration from Holly at pickle is a treat  and added a bow to the shirt. I got it from a local craft shop and only cost me 50p for a metre! It's so cheap and gives a plain shirt a bit of edge.

2/ The shoes I brought today were ony £4! down from £15 so I thought I just had to buy them! Such a bargain! They feel sturdy and are nice and thick which is always a good thing as I find my shoes always wear out really quickly cause I end up wearing them all the time! I need more variation in the shoe department I think. I also brought a white summer dress and those pastel blue sunnies from Primark (I'm sure you all know the ones)
3/ Oh and thats my fluff ball called Scarlet, because of the lovely red tinge she has on her fur, but we call her Meepy cause she meeps alot!

How do you guys spruce up a simple shirt or make a masculine shirt more feminine?

Clock and Pearl Leaf

I havent really gotten dressed properly this week, I've worn boring, comfy clothes to college and I've had Wed and today off so no outfit posts! I can never be bothered to put on makeup especially to blog, who can!?

1/ I brought a new notebook for art yesterday it's this lovely rust colour and is completely recycled which I really like, if something looks good and is recycled I'm always more drawn to it and am way more likely to buy.
The necklace I got for christmas a while ago from my sister and her boyfriend, its so sweet and simple and goes with everything, the brooch is something my other sister got me for christmas, its vintage cause she knows how much I love vintage and charity shops!

2/This is the plant that is in my room, and has been in my room since I started this blog in 2010! I did post about it in May and its been alive ever since, so its kind of my blogging plant, and its in bloom at the moment so thats always a good sign.

DVF

1/ Vintage Collection 2/3  Blooming Prints

I was browsing on Beso the other day, and all the things I seemed to be clicking on were Diane Von Furstenberg!
I went on her site and I was swooning over all the vintage and exotic prints in her spring collection.
I especially love the slouchy shapes of some of the dresses, mixed with the big prints and necklines, they are just perfect (minus the price tag), ok, they are lovely to look at. If I win the lottery this whole collection would definitely be high on the list of lovely things to buy, obviously along side giving to charity..(aheem)
I have be lusting over iphone cases, if only I HAD an iphone to dress up! :( (boo) The fifi lapin ones are just adorable! This one by DVF is going for around 36 odd quid!
Her bags and accessorises are to die for, I love this big bag in a minty pastely colour!
and these shoes, so 70's gotta love 'em!

however I have found a few 'healthy' alternatives for the
dresses: one two three four
shoes: one
bag: one two

Cupcakes and stripey shorts

Top: H&M
Shorts: Handmade from Dorothy Perkins (judging by the lable they are about 100 years old)
Belt: Topshop
Shoes: Primark

Apple & Vanilla / Orange & Carrot

1/ I went to Crikey its Vintage , vintage market today. It's so lovely and filled with so many unique and handmade stalls like Pink Pepper Vintage and the amazing cupcakes from Kiss and Bake up. I went to the market quite late and didn't mange to find any vintage treats but on my way out I had to buy a KABU cupcake,  (or three) I had by bike and some how managed to transport them home without them breaking or getting squished! I am so excited to eat them for dessert tonight!
just to add... i just had them and they were incredible, we all agreed the orange and carrot were the best, even though the apple and vanilla ones were still delectable! I highly recommend trying one of these!

2/ Excuse my squinty, moody/posey face, I had a bit of a headache and it doesn't look bright but my eyes were being blinded. The shorts are customised, they used to be down past my knees, no idea when really flared calf length stripey trousers were a trend! But they are from Dorthy Perkins (by the label it seems about 10 years ago) so that's probably why! They also handily double up very well as part of a pirate costume! Also finally manged to get my Primark flatforms into a post! I am totally in love with them. I never expected them to be in Primark and I just had to grab them up as they were the only ones left in size 6!! Fate, I think so!
Do any of you have flatforms, or do you think they are too 70's platform-esque?

éclectique

I've been pretty ill lately so I havent managed to get round to any outfits posts, as I havent really got out of my pjs all week. I have been doing lots of baking ,photograpy and creating instead!

1&2 // With all my recent make up buys I thought I needed a place to store them all! I decorated a box with my Cath Kidson paper.
3// Pink cupid coat hooks.
4// My floral antique looking clock.
5// My favourite flowery bunting in my bedroom.

1. All these pictures are gifts I got from 'Eclectique' a local, home furnishing shop full of lovely vintage and retro bits and bobs to create your perfect home! Based on the quayside in one of the cellars, if you are ever in Exeter I highly recommend this shop for quirky gifts or even furniture. The tables are handmade in Devon which makes them all that more unique and special. Its the perfect place to go on a warm summers day and then you can go on to enjoy a coffee a few cellars down at the 'Coffee Cellar'
2. I while ago I ask a question on the Hanpicked community blogger tech tips newsletter. Everyone who entered got put in for a prize draw for a London Fashion Week Goody bag..And I won! I will post about it when i recieve it! I'm excited to see whats inside it! I asked the question on everyones lips: "How Do You use Google Anayltics? I just dont get it"!if anyone wants any blog related advice Girl Does Geek  is where you want to go!

Thursday

Cinnamon Whirls

I came home last night in the mood for a little baking. I had a little pastry left over from a bakewell tart. And I remembered the cinnamon whirls my sister made on her blog a while ago and decided to give them a go. They are the quickest pastry I had ever made.

Ingredients:
Ready rolled puff pastry
Cinnamon
Sugar

Roll the pastry out, sprinke sugar and cinnamon generously over the top, roll up it up, and cut it into small slices, put in the oven for 15-20 mins on gas mark 4
(Shortest method ever) Useful if you're in a rush for some party type food or a quick breakfast surprise!

Mexican Rave

I was just browsing the Asos website, and stumbled across this trend, I know its been going on for a while, but I have fallen in love.
What can go wrong, bright colours, clashing patterns and summery dresses.
These were my favouries. It's taking me back to travelling, beaches and sunnier places! I've always wanted to go Mexico, my sister has been there a few times as her boyfriend's family live over there. After seeing all her photos  I want to have all these oufits packed in a suitcase and to be jetting off on a plane to South America.
What are your thoughts on this trend? Personally I cannot get enough!

Homage to Breton

 Top: H&M
Jeans:Primark
Shoes: New Look
Necklace: Primark

This is what I wore today, simple, but teamed up with an embellished necklace, it jazzed it up a bit. I only went into town quickly so I kinda threw this all together, but I thought it worked well.
I love these Breton tops originating from Brittany in France.
Audrey Tatou in (Coco Before Chanel), the original Coco Chanel,Clemency Posey, Ashley Olsen and Alexa Chung. All these French/English woman embracing the look and making it look effortless as usual! (all looks found on google)

I went to debenhams to get a colour match with Clinique. I thought it was about time to move on from £5.99 foundations, however much I like the price. The woman was really nice (if a little patronising as I said I had no idea what kind of skin I had! (Dry/ Combonation/Oily) and hardly had a skin care regeme!
I didnt buy the foundation on the spot as I wanted to try it out throughtout the day to see how well it held.  So far its looking good. She convinced me to get the 3step skincare set when I brought the foundation so I could get the gift bag, which came with a smaller version of the skincare products, eyecream, moisturiser, mascara and lip pallette all for £40 which is actually pretty good but I'm convinced £40 is too much to spend on makeup, but my skin for once isnt cracking under the foundation. But by the looks of my skin I think I will go in tomorrow as buy it as it can be an early birthday present...to myself!
